dear ophelia_is_dead,
for our wedding I have ordered you a beef meal (as I know chicken isn't cool for you) and have requested an alternate dessert (we're having strawberry rhubarb pie) that contains no cocoa.
hope you enjoy,
kisses and squeezes

| Hello, Darkness, My Old Friend |
[23 Jul 2008|02:15pm] |
Well, I haven't had one of these in a while.
I'm having a minor anxiety attack at work. I suppose it was inevitable. I'd gone months and months without anything majorish (barring the sadness I felt over Stan's death, which I regard as normal and expected grief/stress). This isn't completely unexpected either. I've been trying to juggle work and my creative endeavours and while I've almost got a handle on productive habits that help my personal projects out, I feel a little swamped in some regards. Then there's some issues that I don't feel I can talk about publically until they get resolved.
This is really a minor glitch, mind you. Compared to the waves and troughs in my life previously, this is comparatively small. I'm kinda journalling about it partly as therapy, because that's one of my coping things.
In fact, the things that are causing anxiety all have the potential to be really positive things in my life. I just have to acknowledge that and let things happen.
Plus....tattoo to look forward to.

| Temp work while on vacation... |
[23 Jul 2008|11:36am] |
I am on vacation until the 5th of August so two weeks more or less. I am a bit of a workaholic and don't have any major plans so I was going to see if anyone had a suggestion for a job I could do to make a bit of money for the two weeks I am off. I have an extremely wide skill range so I can do almost anything.
Suggestions would be great, thanks.

ok, so
2 weeks are up, i did my time in "Gateway to Work" and the end result is: a) i hate humankind more b) i actually did change my cv slightly c) i got free sandwiches and crisps for a week (gave crisps away to Dev/G as they're full of fatty crap) d) i got a job e) i got a buspass
so yeah, d) being the one you all went "buh!?" at yeah, i've had 3 days of employment so far and you know what? it isnt bad
i mean it IS bad, in a number of ways that are causing me to despair... but it's not the worst thing in the world, flexible, easy work, and nearly £8per hour so, yeah i'm off the dole anyway
reasons being bad though: a) i only have 2 tasks to do b) there's at least 1 woman in the office who's going to do my tits in c) no free sandwiches d) my shoulder pains are back e) it sounds like everyone bar 3 women in the office are leaving this job...
again d) being the clincher Incidentally I've phoned my doctor and his ever-so-helpful advice (after me explaining every minute detail of why i'm worried i cant do this work, where can i go from here employment wise, i dont want to live my life on pills, i've only had one physio appointment and they wern't helpful... etc) his advice was "Oh those last pills seemed to work, see how they go for a while and then we'll see if you need to go back to physio/muscoskeletal
*N.B both physio and muscoskeletal cant find anything wrong and physio basically told me to watch my posture... helpful advice indeed.
so i'm bummed, and wondering if i'm wasting people's time by letting them train me up, just for me to end up on the sick again, taking painkillers for a year and becoming comepletely unemployable... *sigh*
oh hello, it's 2006 all over again
in other news if i feel up to it my radio show is on tonight 9pm-11pm GMT www.ne1fm.com/live.m3u listen if you wish, and yes Vinny/others, i know i need to update the podcast-ery goodness of our past shows (i'm so behind on everything)
Addendum: holy crap batman, we're moving next Thursday! (have only packed 2 boxes...)

Sean Lineham, aka DJ Guy Smiley, passed away last night.
He's a year and 3 days older than me, meaning he just celebrated his 30th birthday.
I can't even imagine what his family's going through, especially his mom, who just visited him at work on the 21st.
This is gonna take some time to process. Sean and I had somewhat of a volatile relationship (I mean the generic term, not the bf/gf specific one) - better at some times than at others - but he was a good person and a good friend to those in his circle.
Condolences to everyone who had the pleasure of getting to know him and safe journeys to the clubs in the sky, Sean.

So I'll be starting a [Zune] category for my posts. A few of you are a bit boggled at my frequent mentions of a Microsoft product when I'm normally such a hater. However, it would seem that a marketing company likes my LJ, and they sent me a Zune to play with, evaluate and generally get the word out about.
For better or for worse. (No, really.).
They asked me of my opinion of Microsoft out of 10 and I gave them a VERY generous 3. Part of that 3 was "please don't kick me off the program, who knows, my opinion might change!!!!!". But... free gear is free gear, kids. So ... we'll see. Also, if I know one of you in the right age group (if the nomination card is restricted to the age group that the marketing company caters to) that is active online and wants to whore themselves out for the sake of free stuff, I might nominate one of you to join the party. I have someone in mind already, actually.
I'll post the "Conversation ID" in my posts along with the link - you fill out a quick survey, of which I have no idea of the contents, and I dunno, I get to keep playing with my free toy. hehe.
I also started a Pownce account under my REAL (first) name, and I'll be posting my opinion there as well. I'm gonna post everything there (well, PG-13 and above anyway - that's fair since I can't Friendslock, isn't it?). Balls-out.
So since I haven't solved my Internet woes (roommate has old computer, I have uncooperative router and neighbors have unsecured wireless network which'd be GROOVY if the signal wasn't shyster) - but hopefully that changes tonight/tomorrow - I will only be posting first impressions tonight, along with maybe some preliminary pics (I'll be up till 4 in the morning fighting with roomie's computer if I can't get my own up and running) with a comparison to my Zen.
HOPEFULLY tomorrow I'll be able to put some MUSIC on the friggin' thing (unless I have to buy it all, in which case the Zune's going back in the box to the marketing company... I mean, I ripped CDs to my computer for a REASON) and I'll be able to start commenting on practical things like music definition and features. :)

| I need your suggestions! |
[22 Jul 2008|10:36pm] |
I just moved here and I need to find a new:
- great person/spa for brazilian waxes (preferably someone who makes you feel comfortable and where it's not ridiculously expensive, the ones back home were about $30)
- Church? I used to go to a non-denominational church back home and am thinking of finding a new one out here. Maybe a baptist one? It's close to Non-denominational. Good music, friendly environment.
- Consignment shop. I have a wedding dress to get rid of, and want to find a good shop you've had (or heard of) a good experience with.
The first two would be great if they were downtown/close to downtown. I live in Mission and DO have access to a vehicle, but it's always good to have things close to home.

John and I took the Red Line into Harvard and took my design over to Chameleon.
The appointment has been made. Sunday at three, I either show up in Harvard to face the needle, or I forfeit 50 bucks.

Estelle Getty died today apparently (though this link doesn't say that, yet)
She was a cool crazy old lady (or she played one on TV). I'll bet she's cracking people up in whatever Afterlife™ you happen to believe in.

I need help.. I'm headed out to Newfoundland for a week to go to a friends wedding. I am looking for a unique, fun gift for around $60. (100 max, but $60 would be more comfortable). And I'm also looking for some kind of unique, fun calgary thing to bring to them, and to the people that are hosting me while I'm there. The age group is around 30. And I'd like to get something age-appropriate and/or just really neat/unique but I cant think of anything as I've never really been a tourist around here... thanks agian.

I don't know why there aren't faker bank account numbers that actually trigger a security alert and hot pursuit of whoever's trying to take the money out of said account.
Wouldn't that be a straightforward way to catch these morons?
I mean "please help my [relative/friend] with [crisis]" is one thing, but there are bigass legal implications involved in threatening to off someone.

So this is what my petit farcis turned out like. Obviously need a bit of work on presentation, but not bad I think for a first effort. I do need to get proper pans for this kind of thing though...

And a few shots from the Salsa Fest down in Kensington.
